     Many have asked me about the creation of Bear’s Countryside Creations Gift Shoppe. In my life I have always had two passions and one big dream. My two passions are my family and my teaching profession.  They are my life! My dream has always been to own a store since I was two years old.

          My earliest memories start at the age two while living in Schenectady, New York. I have such wonderful memories of my Grandparents and my family. The heart of my store stems from my dad’s parents, my loving Grandma and Grandpa DeJohn.

     It began one day as I walked into Grandpa’s store and asked him if I could “work” in the store with my daddy. He smiled, and said work at the candy counter and so the dream began. I was so proud.  I did a great job for my Grandpa! Well I thought I did by giving candy away to all the people who came into the store (all our friends)!  Well Grandpa retired me that day from my “employment” in his store. From that point on I learned I should collect money for items sold.

     I will forever remember Grandpa DeJohn’s store. The dream followed me for many, many years and has now materialized in a beautiful gift shoppe 55 years later.  Here nestled in the small community of Greenville, NY is Bear’s Countryside Creations Gift Shoppe. Our Amish friends helped us raise the barn in 11 hours. Four years later the inside was finished and on September 19, 2009 the dream became a reality. Our gift shoppe opened.
